Sudkamp relief project

The kind of relief I used was carving the pages of the book to look like a 3D tree. I am most proud of the way the trees edges make it look like a real tree would. Not perfectly semetrical. If i could change one thing I would go back in and give it more depth in the center of the tree.

Sudkamp Pressure project

I took it in the direction of weather because I know pressure sometimes causes the weather to be the way it is. I always knew I wanted to use weather I just didn't know how to show it. I decided to do rain and snow. I think I showed texture successfully when creating the snow and making raindrops. One thing I would do differently would be to make another weather tile.

Sticky Situation Art 2

This is the painting I did for the sticky situation project. I got my ideas by thinking of situations that you wouldn't want to find yourself in, more than thinking of things that were actually sticky.  I feel that I thought outside the box because I went for an approach on the theme differently than I usually would. I accomplished the task of using repetition by using lightning bolts throughout the painting. I chose to do acrylic paint just because I feel more comfortable using it, and I like the way it looks more than watercolor. During the process of this painting I feel that I've learned a lot about how to paint and different techniques.

Whats the point?

This is the finished project

Some of the ideas I had for whats the point were broken pencils and pointing hands but it seemed like those were very popular ideas so I decided to think outside the box. I thought of picture of a certain point on a map but the viewer would still be unsure of where exactly it was. I ended up deciding to draw a globe with many hands pointing at different spots so the viewer has to ask themselves "What is the point?". The reason I chose this idea was because it stood out to me and seemed different than anyone Else's solutions, and I thought it would be interesting to go about drawing it and how exactly I would. I show contrast by the edges being the darkest black and slowly getting lighter, then having some spaces completely white, such as the hands pointing and the base of the globe.  I used black chalk pastels because I liked the way when drawing thumbnails you could slowly get lighter and lighter and how it looked. Also I wanted to expand my mediums from just always using pencil or pens. One technique I used was using the chalk and going over the globe light enough to still see the continents but show that it was a globe and was round instead of keeping it white and looking flat. I like the way it turned out because it does make the globe look more round. The only risk I took was the fact that I used black chalk pastels and it was very hard for me to keep the areas that were meant to be white from getting black finger prints on them and getting dust from the chalk in them because as I started using them I realised how messy they really were. The message I am trying to convey is that sometimes you really don't know the point of doing something but sometimes you just have to take a wild guess at it and go with it. Hopefully it will work out in the end. I had a great time doing the project and experimenting with new mediums.

Up close and Personal

This is the finished version of my project

I developed my ideas by writing down ideas and drawing thumbnails to visually see if the idea would translate good into a piece of art. I chose to do a planet because I thought the idea of a close up picture of something that is still millions of miles away seemed pretty cool. I showed emphasis by using shading techniques for the main planet and by making the moon very bright surrounded by dull nebulous clouds.  I chose to use chalk pastels because I loved the way they blended together. I first thought I would use oil pastels but when blending the colors got messy and didn't look as good. I think using chalk pastels really made my piece the best it can be because the shading is the main point and shading with chalk pastels can be really beautiful. The risks I made were trying to make the nebulous clouds because I wasn't quite sure on how to make them actually look like real nebulous clouds and how to show depth, all in all I think they turned out alright. If I could I would do them over because I would like to make them stand out a little more and show more depth than just flat on a picture. I think the main characteristic I used when making this was technique because the way of shading required a lot of technique because without it the colors would have smeared together and made brown and wouldn't show the actual shading. I am proud of my drawing and really have no regrets with what I chose to do and how I did it.

This is unfinished before I added the second nebulous cloud to add balence to the piece
